Orillia Leadership Development Retreat

Develop your leadership skills as you take part in challenging outdoor activities. This unique program provides opportunities to connect with others, like you, with type 1 diabetes. With ICD’s expert knowledge, enthusiastic instructors, and exciting activities you are sure to walk away with a deeper understanding of your potential.
Whether you are talking by the campfire or challenging yourself to try something new, this program will allow you to connect with others and build lifelong friendships. This retreat will focus on building the skills needed to become a strong leader in the diabetes community.
Who This event is open to high school and post secondary students with type 1 diabetes, ages 15+. Those interested in bringing a friend without T1D are welcome to! There will be separate sleeping accommodation for male/female participants.

Where Youth Leadership Camps Canada, Orillia ON
Each leadership retreat is unique to the area in which we are staying. Our programming will utilize the unique features of the site and available activities. Be prepared to be outside in various weather conditions and to work closely with your peers and the ICD leadership team. Activities will emphasize our natural leadership abilities and explore areas to develop.
About Us ICD is a leader in exercise and diabetes with experts in the science who talk the talk and athletes who walk the walk. We’ve hosted thousands of type 1s in everything from a fun day of sport to week-long camps and extreme challenges. We focus on how to manage diabetes effectively in the midst of real life challenges and use active programs to bring strategies to life. Support Come out and feel the support from others who understand what you are going through and will share in this learning experience. Learn something about yourself and connect with other T1Ds who understand the ins and outs of diabetes management. This is a great opportunity to take in picturesque views and discover what you can accomplish with the right support.
We regularly support all manners of food allergy, celiac disease and many other challenges (physical and mental), so don’t be afraid to reach out and talk with our leadership team to develop a plan for an experience of a lifetime!
Diabetes Management We are able to support any level of control with type 1 diabetes as well as many other additional challenges. So don’t think your blood sugars couldn’t stand up to such an extreme challenge – our guides are experts, experienced and excited to support you on this journey.
Gear We are able to support additional needs for backpacks, high-end sleeping bags and head lamps upon request but proper hiking shoes/boots, rain jacket, athletic wear are required. Please reach out so we can help you be prepared for this adventure. Registered participants will receive a detailed packing list and more detailed directions closer to the event.
Cost All tickets include accommodations, food and snacks, safety equipment as needed, and ICD leadership. Tickets at the Empowerment rates are made available through individual donations and corporate sponsorships.
